Who Killed the Electric Car? (4 stars)

Who Killed the Electric Car? imageAmid ever-increasing gas prices, this documentary delves into the short life of the GM EV1 electric car — once all the rage in the mid-1990s and now fallen by the roadside. How could such an efficient, green-friendly vehicle fail to transform our garages and skies? Through interviews with government officials, former GM employees and concerned celebs (such as EV1 driver Mel Gibson), Chris Paine (former EV1 owner) seeks to answer the question.

Geoff’s Comments: Wow. Another great documentary. It’s fascinating to see how things played out in the production and destruction of these revolutionary vehicles. It’s also interesting to consider just what might be the motivation behind not only stopping their production, but literally seizing and destroying every single electric car even when the owners [leasers] clearly wanted to and were willing to pay for them and keep then. Just why would a car company choose to do that?

  1. Agreed – a great film, and a great insight into just how moronic some of the “business decisions” of the car companies can be.

Thanks again for the opportunity to see it!
