Apple.com : the tenth most popular website!

without comments

According to Nielson netRatings, Apple’s was the world’s tenth most popular website in January 2006. How cool is that? Well, it puts us in the company of Yahoo, Microsoft, MSN, Google, AOL, eBay, Amazon, MapQuest and Real. Notices any reference to Dell? Compac? Toshiba? Gateway? Any other computer manufacturer? Or any other digital music player manufacturer? Nope. Heh. It feels good to work for one of the top 10!

Passing Thought : Wait’ll We Get Our Senah On You

without comments

So, a moment of limited attention raised a question in my mind. What, exactly, is different about a pair of clean underwear put on backwards? Sure, the label’s facing outside instead of inside. but beyond that, it’s identical. Same everything. Same fabric, density, the works. the absolutely ONLY difference is the label orientation. Therefore, how does it end up that the label being inside is correct and outside is not? I found myself in this situation, ‘fixing’ it, and it just seems silly to me in retrospect.

Elbow

without comments

Another ‘new’ discovery of an existing band. I’m a big fan of ‘Talk Talk’ and stumbled across comparisons of Elbow to them…. yes, there’s a ‘touch’ of that influence but much more at work and it’s all good. This is another new favorite.

Kept Awake

with one comment

We had an opportunity to get out of the house a few weeks back and see a movie. Something happened there that has been ‘haunting me’ so to speak. We saw a preview for a new horror movie titled ‘Stay Alive’. The premise of which was a typical twist on a typical theme in films of this genre; in this one, if you die in the game you die for real. Whatever. That’s not what’s haunting me.

Capote (4 stars)

without comments

Flamboyant yet mysterious, writer Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who penned the elegant Breakfast at Tiffany’s, was the toast of New York society. But he was also able to channel the grit and grime of what may be one of the most notorious murder cases in Kansas history with his novel In Cold Blood. In researching the crime, Capote found himself in a dance with the devil: the ringleader behind the killings.

Geoff’s Comments: I’ve been a fan of Phillip Seymour Hoffman since seeing his stellar performance in ‘Magnolia’. I think he’s been as under-rated as William Macy has (Magnolia as well). Hoffman’s performance in ‘Capote’ was not just a dead on impression but a wonderfully subtle acting job, capturing the complexity of a man reliant on the attention and accolades of his piers while becoming dependant upon the execution of a man he connects with in order to complete a project that will be his greatest accomplishment.

Aqualung

More tunes I’ve been listening to: Aqualung. No, not a Jethro Tull cover band, but actually one guy [mainly] at the keyboards. Quite enjoyable, a little like a subdued version of Coldplay. Mellow and melodic.

I Have A Very Strong Relation

without comments

My older brother David, who’s living in and loving Utah, has been extremely active in the Scotish highland games/strongman competitions. So much so that he’s ascended to a ranking of #13 in the entire world! That’s pretty freaking amazing, if I say so myself. He’s a hell of a big guy, and on more than one occasions he was mistaken for “Cold Stone Steve Austin” of WWF fame. This is one guy it’s good to know has got my back!

So he wears a skirt… if you don’t like it, perhaps you’d care to tell him to his face? …..Yeah… i didn’t think so.

Passing Thought: I Can Not Believe I’m Approaching 40…

without comments

Everybody talks about how hitting 40 is such a big deal and so pivotal. I’m inching up there and it’s so freaking depressing. I mean, I was at my best and happiest at 32… 30 was just not a healthy place to be for me, and even at 34 I was feeling well in control and comfortable. But when I hit 36, i started to get a bit uneasy, and now it seems i’ve blazed past 38 and I’m heading to 40. I gotta do something about it. I’m gonna turn this around before it’s too late and i have to give in and buy a bigger belt. :-)
